Is the Nintendo DS the best handheld console in the gaming industry?

When it comes down to handheld game consoles its well known by almost everyone that the Nintendo DS is the best selling handheld game console in world.   It’s hard to believe that the Nintendo DS was released over 12 years ago when it first appeared in electronic retail stores back in late 2004.  The 64 bit graphics of the Nintendo DS was appealing to many people who were fans of Nintendo consoles such as the N64.  In fact, the Nintendo DS felt like a portable version of the Nintendo 64 depending on what game you were playing.  There were games such as Super Mario 64 DS which were very cool game because it felt similar to the original Super Mario 64 title which was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996.  In terms of plot the DS version of Super Mario 64 was similar to the N64 version but different.  One of the  best things about Super Mario 64 DS is that it allowed players to choose multiple characters such as Yoshi, Wario and Luigi instead of just Mario.   Ever since the DS version of Super Mario 64 was released back in late 2004 the game had managed to sell over 11 million units worldwide

Surprisingly, Super Mario 64 DS was not the best selling Mario game on the Nintendo DS.  In fact the New Super Mario Bros had managed to sell over 30 million units worldwide since its release back in 2006. The cool thing about the New Super Mario Bros along with enhanced graphics was the fact that it was one of the first 2D side scrolling Mario titles that Nintendo had produced that featured voice acting.  The fact that Nintendo were able to successfully combine elements of older 2D side scrolling Mario games with more detailed graphics was impressive.

Also, titles such a Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was special since it was one of the few multiplayer games to have ever been released in the series.  The top-down 3D view of the game was a pretty cool feature that made Phantom Hourglass more appealing along with the fact that the game was considered to be the sequel of the Zelda: The Wind Waker which was released on Nintendo GameCube between late 2002 and early 2003 which also included multiplayer gameplay.  Since its release back in mid-2007 The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass had managed to sell over 5 million units worldwide titles such as Zelda: Minish Cap for the Game Boy Advance and Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the Nintendo DS.   Its hard to believe that when it comes down to worldwide sales the Nintendo DS has sold 154 million units worldwide since its release during the mid 00’s.  The Nintendo DS is probably the best selling game console of all time right behind the PlayStation 2.  As of right now when it comes down to home console it seems like Sony has dominated mainly throughout the 00’s and the early 10’s.  But when it comes down to handheld consoles Nintendo has delivered the best gaming products since the early 90’s and it looks like its going to stay that way for a while.
