Jet Force Gemini- 25 Years Later

When it comes down to N64 Jet Force Gemini is considered to be a hidden gem from the late 90’s. Jet Force Gemini was a third-person shooter title which was created by Rare and released back in ’99. Despite, Jet Force Gemini not achieving massive commercial success it was a game that definitely had a cult years following its release. There are many people who enjoyed various aspects about Jet Force Gemini including the futuristic look, soundtrack, multiplayer mode along with the fact that it was challenging. Also, for a “T” rated video game Jet Force Gemini was really gory and level designs looked amazing compared to just about anything else you would see on the N64 in the late 90’s. One of the most frustrating things about Jet Force Gemini was boss battle against Mizar which was notoriously difficult.

Also, many people believe that Rare could have had a stronger multiplayer game mode mode opposed to the awkward 2 player co-op mode which was featured in Jet Force Gemini. One of the reasons why Jet Force Gemini was a big deal in ’99 was because there were not too many high profile third person shooter titles on the N64 during the late 90’s aside from GoldenEye 007. The GoldenEye 007 from ’97 game was also developed by Rare and it went on to reach around eight million copies in sales. Despite, how fun Jet Force Gemini was back in the day one of the main reasons Rare never considered a remake was due to its poor sales and its failure to connect with casual gamers. Even though, Jet Force Gemini was not a massive commercial success its still considered to be a hidden gem from the N64 era 25 years later. Jet Force Gemini stood out on the N64 years before the third-person shooter genre would eventually increase in popularity on consoles like the PS2 and Xbox.
