Why the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 movie is such a big deal

There are many people within the gaming world who are talking about the upcoming release of the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 movie which is set to appear in numerous movie theaters worldwide on April 8th. This upcoming movie will be the direct sequel to the Sonic The Hedgehog movie which came out back in 2020 and will also be directed by Jeff Fowler. The Sonic The Hedgehog movie from 2020 was one that exceeded the initial expectations of many critics and viewers worldwide and was praised for its overall presentation as a action family comedy movie. The Sonic movie from 2020 had a budget that ranged from $85-90 million and was considered success despite Covid-19 since it earned over $319 million in relation to box office sales. The first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film was revealed back in December 2021 and many people especially hardcore fans of the blue hedgehog were ecstatic about its announcement. Unlike, the first Sonic movie from 2020 this upcoming film will feature additional characters from the series including the two-tailed fox Tails “Miles” Prower and Knuckles the Echidna. The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film will also see the return of Dr. Eggman who is the recurring main antagonist of the series. Based on what was presented in the trailers for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film the movie is going to be an adaptation of the Sonic 3 video game which was released for the Sega Genesis back in 1994. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is one of Sega’s most iconic video games and arguably the best installment of the Sonic trilogy to emerge from the Sega Genesis in the early 90’s. The plot for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film reflects that of the Sonic 3 game where Dr. Eggman returns seeking the Master Emerald in order to use its powers to gain revenge on Sonic while conquering the world in the process. Also, similar to Sonic 3 Dr. Eggman manages to manipulate Knuckles into doing his bidding while pitting him and Sonic against one another. A final trailer of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie was released back on March 14th and it looked very impressive. Almost everything about the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film was top notch from the voice acting all the way down the CGI and visual effects used for certain characters. There were also a couple of easter eggs in the most recent movie trailer that long time Sonic fans will appreciate as well. This upcoming Sonic movie from Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy Group is such a big deal because its over 25 years in the making. After at least two decades of lackluster Sonic video games probably with the exceptions of Adventure 2, Colors and Mania; this upcoming film is turning heads around the world and more people are paying attention to the Sonic the Hedgehog more now than ever before.
