The Zelda Series Goes Woke?

There many people who are still talking about the announcement of the Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom which is set to appear on Switch in September 2024. The reason why Echoes of Wisdom is such a big deal is because for the first time in the history of the Zelda series Link is not the main protagonist. Instead Link seemingly falls into a shadow realm and Princess Zelda has to use magical abilities in order to rescue him. Zelda has to use the Tri Rod to defeat various foes throughout Echoes of Wisdom the game. Zelda can also use the Tri Rod to create duplicates of object and monsters to help her in certain levels of Echoes of Wisdom which is very interesting to say the least. The graphics and art style for Echoes of Wisdom look similar to that of the 3D remake of Link’s Awakening from ’93 which is something that adds to its appeal. While there have been some critics online who argue that the Zelda series is going woke its probably not a big deal. The landscape of gaming has changed dramatically within the last decade or so and female protagonists are becoming more prominent in this era of video games. The Zelda series is one of the most popular video game franchises of all-time and the character has been iconic since the 80’s despite being portrayed as a damsel in distress for decades. Seeing the Princess Peach got her own video game for the Switch console back in March 2024; it seems like Nintendo has no problem putting more spotlight on some of their iconic female characters. Its unclear whether or not Echoes of Wisdom is canon or non-canon but either way the game looks very interesting and could end up being one of Nintendo’s most popular action-adventure games 2024.
